Position OverviewA Baggage Handling Staff member (also known as a Baggage Handler or Ramp Agent) is responsible for ensuring the safe, timely, and efficient handling of passengers luggage and cargo at airports. The role involves loading and unloading baggage from aircraft, operating ground support equipment, maintaining safety on the ramp, and ensuring all baggage is properly tagged, transferred, and delivered.Key Responsibilities 1. Baggage OperationsLoad and unload passenger baggage, cargo, and mail from aircraft.Transport baggage between aircraft and terminals using trolleys, belt loaders, and other ground support equipment.Sort and route baggage according to destination and flight schedules.Ensure all baggage is correctly tagged and placed in designated containers or trolleys.Assist in baggage transfer between connecting flights. 2. Documentation & TrackingVerify baggage tags, flight numbers, and destination details before loading.Use baggage reconciliation systems (BRS) or scanners to track and confirm baggage movements.Report any damaged, untagged, or misplaced baggage to supervisors or customer service.Maintain accurate loading and unloading records as per airline and airport regulations. 3. Ground Equipment OperationSafely operate ground support equipment such as baggage tugs, dollies, belt loaders, and conveyor systems.Ensure proper maintenance checks before and after equipment use.Follow all safety procedures when operating near aircraft or on active ramps. 4. Safety & Security ComplianceAdhere strictly to airport ramp safety protocols and security standards.Ensure all baggage handling activities comply with DGCA and airline regulations.Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times while on duty.Report any safety hazards, foreign objects, or equipment faults immediately. 5. Teamwork & CoordinationWork closely with ramp agents, ground supervisors, flight dispatch, and cabin crew.Coordinate during flight turnarounds to achieve on-time performance.Support other ground operations when required (cargo loading, aircraft cleaning, etc.). 6.
