Aircraft Cargo Handling Supervisor Job DescriptionThe Aircraft Cargo Handling Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the efficient and safe handling of cargo and baggage at airports. This role requires strong leadership skills and extensive knowledge of cargo handling procedures and regulations. The supervisor will work closely with a team of cargo handlers and coordinate activities to ensure the timely and accurate loading and unloading of aircraft.Aircraft Cargo Handling Supervisor ResponsibilitiesSupervise and coordinate the activities of cargo handling personnel, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to safety protocols.Plan and allocate resources effectively to meet operational demands, including assigning tasks to team members and monitoring their performance.Train and mentor cargo handling staff, providing guidance on best practices and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping of cargo and baggage, including weight, dimensions, and any special handling requirements.Coordinate with airline representatives and other stakeholders to ensure proper handling of special cargo, such as dangerous goods, perishables, and live animals.Monitor cargo handling equipment and facilities, reporting any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate department.Oversee the loading and unloading of cargo and baggage onto aircraft, ensuring proper weight distribution and adherence to safety regulations.Resolve any issues or disputes related to cargo handling, including lost or damaged items, and take appropriate corrective actions.Continuously evaluate and improve cargo handling processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency and cost savings.Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations governing the handling and transportation of cargo and baggage.Aircraft Cargo Handling Supervisor Required SkillsStrong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.In-depth knowledge of cargo handling procedures, including loading and unloading techniques, weight and balance calculations, and documentation requirements.Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in the aviation industry.Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with team members, airline representatives, and other stakeholders.Attention to detail and accuracy in handling cargo documentation and ensuring the correct handling of special cargo.Proficiency in using computer systems and software for record-keeping and data analysis.Problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to handle customer inquiries and resolve issues effectively.Physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy objects and work in outdoor environments in various weather conditions.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree in aviation management or a related field is preferred.Previous experience in cargo handling or a related field, with at least 0-1 years of supervisory experience.Knowledge of local, national, and international regulations related to cargo handling and transportation.Certification in Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) cargo handling would be an advantage.Familiarity with relevant computer systems and software for cargo handling operations.Ability to pass a background check and obtain necessary security clearances as required by the airport or airline.

Supervise and coordinate the activities of ground crew in the loading, unloading, securing, and staging of aircraft cargo or baggage. May determine the quantity and orientation of cargo and compute aircraft center of gravity.
