They apply principles of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism to create solutions across various industries.Core ResponsibilitiesThe duties of an Electrical Engineer are varied and depend on the specialization (e.g., power systems, electronics, control systems), but generally include:Design and Development:Designing new ways to use electrical power or to improve existing products, such as electric motors, communication systems, power generation equipment, or electronic devices.Creating technical drawings, specifications, and schematics using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.Developing and testing components and prototypes, and researching and testing manufacturing methods.System Analysis and Testing:Performing detailed calculations to establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards.Evaluating electrical systems, products, and applications for performance, efficiency, and reliability.Designing and conducting tests on finished products and systems to confirm capabilities and compliance.Supervision and Compliance:Directing the manufacturing, installation, and testing activities to ensure the product meets specifications and industry codes and safety regulations (e.g., National Electrical Code).Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical engineers, technicians, project managers) to integrate electrical systems into larger projects.Providing technical support and guidance to project teams and technicians.Documentation and Management:Writing reports, compiling data, and preparing specifications for the purchase of electrical equipment and materials.Working with project managers to estimate costs, develop budgets, and ensure projects are completed on time.
