position overview
an air cargo executive is responsible for handling freight operations, ensuring safe and efficient cargo movement, and maintaining compliance with aviation regulations. the role involves coordinating shipments, preparing documentation, liaising with freight forwarders and customers, and overseeing the smooth flow of cargo through acceptance, storage, loading, and delivery.
key responsibilities
cargo operations
manage booking, acceptance, and handling of cargo shipments.
prepare and process air waybills (awbs), manifests, and other shipping documentation.
ensure proper packaging, labeling, and marking of shipments.
supervise cargo build-up, storage, and breakdown in compliance with airline and iata standards.
coordinate with warehouse staff, ground handling agents, and ramp teams for cargo loading/unloading.
regulatory & compliance
ensure compliance with iata cargo handling manual (chm) and dangerous goods regulations (dgr).
follow customs, export/import, and aviation security requirements.
maintain accurate records for audits and regulatory inspections.
conduct checks on weight & balance, uld control, and special cargo requirements (live animals, perishable goods, dangerous goods).
customer service
liaise with freight forwarders, shippers, and consignees regarding cargo bookings and status updates.
provide tracking and tracing information to customers.
handle complaints, claims, and service disruptions with professionalism.
promote value-added services such as express cargo and priority shipments.
administrative & reporting
maintain cargo documentation, shipment logs, and daily operational records.
prepare mis (management information system) and revenue reports.
monitor cargo revenue targets and optimize space utilization.
support audits and assist in implementing operational improvements.
required skills & competencies
knowledge of iata cargo handling procedures and dangerous goods regulations (dgr cat 6 preferred)
understanding of customs clearance and international trade compliance
proficiency in cargo management systems (skychain, cargospot, unisys, etc.)
strong organizational and multitasking skills
good communication and customer service orientation
problem-solving and quick decision-making ability
teamwork and coordination across departments
physical fitness for warehouse/ramp duties (where required)
qualifications
diploma/degree in aviation, logistics, supply chain, or related field
certification in iata cargo & dangerous goods handling preferred
0–6 years of experience in cargo/logistics/aviation operations
proficiency in ms office and cargo management systems
flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays
