Job Description Senior Design EngineerDepartment: Design & EngineeringIndustry: Metal Manufacturing / Sheet Metal / FabricationJob PurposeTo lead and execute design activities for metal components and assemblies, optimize designs for manufacturability, and drive continuous improvement using AutoCAD and Kaizen methodologies.Key ResponsibilitiesCreate and review detailed AutoCAD drawings for metal parts and assemblies.Design sheet metal, fabrication, welding, and machined components.Lead design reviews and ensure manufacturability and cost optimization.Coordinate with production, quality, purchase, and sales teams.Handle customer drawings, RFQs, and technical discussions.Implement Kaizen initiatives to improve design efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize processes.Support tooling development, jigs, and fixtures.Guide and mentor junior design engineers.Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and industry standards.Required SkillsStrong proficiency in AutoCAD (2D & basic 3D preferred).In-depth knowledge of metal manufacturing processes.Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerances, and BOMs.Practical knowledge of Kaizen, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement tools.Problem-solving and analytical skills.Leadership and team coordination skills.QualificationsBE / BTech in Mechanical or Production Engineering.Experience510 years in design engineering within the metal manufacturing industry.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Modeling: Develop accurate 3D CAD models and detailed 2D engineering drawings for manufacturing using industry-standard software.Design Modification: Modify and revise existing designs to improve performance, reduce production costs, or adapt to new manufacturing constraints.GD&T Application: Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure proper fit and function of assemblies.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with production, tooling, and quality assurance teams to resolve design-related issues on the shop floor.BOM Generation: Create and maintain comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM) and technical documentation for smooth ERP integration.Standards Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with relevant national and international standards (e.g., ISO, ASME, DIN).Prototyping & Testing: Assist in the development and evaluation of prototypes, analyzing test results to refine designs before final production release.

Process Optimization & System TroubleshootingAnalyze existing engineering workflows, plant layouts, and machinery performance to identify bottlenecks and implement continuous improvements.Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, or software-related faults in production equipment.Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for machine usage, preventative maintenance, and safety protocols.2. Project Engineering & Design SupportCollaborate with design and R&D teams to translate blueprints, CAD models, and technical specifications into physical components or production runs.Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of new machinery, automated lines, or control systems.Manage technical documentation, including engineering drawings, component bills of materials (BOM), and validation reports.3. Quality Assurance & ComplianceMonitor production outputs to ensure compliance with company quality standards and international benchmarks (such as ISO standards).Conduct root-cause analysis (RCA) on product defects, material failures, or operational downtime, and deploy corrective actions.4.
