job summary:
the ramp officer is responsible for coordinating and supervising all aircraft ramp activities to ensure safe, timely, and efficient ground handling operations. this includes overseeing baggage and cargo loading/unloading, aircraft marshalling, fueling coordination, and maintaining ramp safety standards in compliance with airport and airline procedures.
key responsibilities:
1. aircraft handling & coordination
oversee aircraft arrival and departure procedures.
marshal aircraft to and from parking bays safely and efficiently.
coordinate with flight crew, dispatchers, and other ground service teams to ensure smooth turnaround.
monitor ramp operations to prevent damage to aircraft, equipment, or personnel.
ensure ground support equipment (gse) is positioned and operated correctly.
2. baggage & cargo operations
supervise loading and unloading of baggage, cargo, and mail according to load plans.
ensure proper segregation of priority, fragile, and transfer baggage.
verify weight and balance documentation before aircraft pushback.
coordinate with cargo and load control teams for accuracy and compliance.
3. safety & compliance
enforce all ramp safety rules and personal protective equipment (ppe) usage.
conduct regular ramp safety checks and incident reporting.
ensure compliance with airport authority, airline, and dgca safety standards.
respond immediately to emergencies or irregularities on the ramp area.
4. equipment & resource management
monitor and maintain ramp equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
report any equipment defects or safety concerns promptly.
coordinate manpower allocation to meet flight schedules efficiently.
5. communication & documentation
liaise with air traffic control (atc), operations control, and airline representatives.
maintain accurate records of ramp operations, flight movements, and delays.
prepare reports related to ramp performance, safety incidents, or operational disruptions.
required skills & competencies
knowledge of aircraft ground handling procedures.
familiarity with gse (ground support equipment) and ramp safety protocols.
strong teamwork and communication skills.
leadership ability for supervising ground crew.

basic computer literacy (ms office, ramp management systems).
qualifications & experience
education: minimum 10+2 / diploma or bachelor’s degree (preferably in aviation, logistics, or related field).
experience: 0–6 years in ground handling or ramp operations (airline or airport environment preferred).
certifications (preferred):
ramp safety training
airside driving permit (adp)
dangerous goods regulations (dgr) awareness
work conditions
work primarily on airport ramp/apron areas.
rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
exposure to noise, weather conditions, and time-critical operational environments.
