JOB DESCRIPTION: PRODUCTION MANAGER (SCRAP YARD / FURNACE / CCM)

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY: Oversees the transformation of raw metal (via induction melting) into solidified semi-finished products (billets).

Key Responsibilities

1. Melting Operations Management (Induction Furnace Sector)

The Production Manager must ensure a continuous supply of molten metal with the precise composition specified by the company.

• Metal charge management: Supervise the sorting, weighing, and charging of raw materials (scrap metal, alloys, fluxes).

• Manage the complete molten metal cycle: Oversee charging, melting, and refining operations in the induction furnace, as well as transfer to the CCM (Continuous Casting Machine).

• Metallurgical control: Ensure compliance with chemical composition specifications. Monitor laboratory spectrometric analyses to adjust composition prior to casting (alloy additions, slag removal).

• Energy, thermal, and consumables monitoring: Optimize induction furnace power cycles to control energy consumption and achieve the exact casting temperature. Closely track supplies, consumption rates, and raw material yield.

• Refractory maintenance: Monitor the wear of the furnace lining (rammed refractory) and schedule sintering or relining operations to prevent metal breakouts.

• Manage solidification: Ensure adherence to continuous casting parameters (casting speed, cooling, mold oscillation) to produce semi-finished products (billets) free from geometric or internal defects.

2. Management and Work Organization

• Team supervision: Manage furnace operators, casting supervisors, continuous casting machine (CCM) operators, and shift maintenance personnel (typically organized into teams).

• Planning and scheduling: Translate the master production plan into daily production orders based on the specific steel grades ordered.

• Performance monitoring: Analyze key performance indicators (OEE - Overall Equipment Effectiveness, hourly productivity, yield ratios) and report to company management.

3. Quality, Safety, and Environment (QHSE)

Operates in a high-risk environment (molten metal, high voltage, heavy loads).

• Absolute safety: Strictly enforce the use of specific PPE (aluminized clothing), monitor water cooling circuits (water-metal explosion risk), and ensure adherence to safety protocols for high-power electrical systems.

• Scrap management: Identify geometric or metallurgical defects in the finished product (inclusions, blowholes) and adjust processes to minimize waste.

4. Coordination with Maintenance

• Scheduled shutdowns: Collaborate with the maintenance department to plan the replacement of furnace refractories, molds, and roller guides, as well as the maintenance of hydraulic and electrical systems for the induction furnace and CCM, overhead cranes, etc.
