Job Description

Role

The Assistant Manager - New Part Development will lead and coordinate the design, prototyping, and industrialization of new rubber components. This role demands technical expertise in rubber materials and moulding processes, along with strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conducting feasibility studies for new RFQ (Request for Quotation) parts.

2. Organize and lead internal and customer kick-off meetings.

3. Developing and monitoring APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) time plans, ensuring adherence, and communicating with customers.

4. Planning and coordinating development and modification activities as a team leader of the Cross-Functional Team (CFT), collaborating with internal departments such as marketing, design, tool room, material, lab, production, finishing, final inspection, packaging, and logistics. This includes coordination for raw material procurement, mold assembly, trials, post-molding operations, invoicing, and transportation.

5. Developing and implementing trial plans (T0, T1, T2, etc.) for new and repeat molds.

6. Identifying metal insert requirements, coordinating with the purchasing department and metal insert supplier, preparing inspection plans, and providing training to concerned personnel.

7. Preparing and finalizing process sheet parameters.

8. Preparing and finalizing parameters for the final inspection plan.

9. Preparing and finalizing parameters for the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and ensuring agreement with the customer. Handing over PPAP to the relevant internal personnel.

10. Preparing packaging standards, submitting them for approval, and obtaining customer approval.

11. Generating gauge requirements based on measurement methods, coordinating with gauge suppliers, and facilitating the handover of gauges to the appropriate department.

12. Designing pallets and developing loading feeding jigs and fixtures. Conducting trials for performer cutting according to process requirements.

13. Managing sample and pilot lot deliveries by preparing delivery challans, primary tags, box tags, and coordinating courier follow-up, tracking, and docket details submission to the customer.

14. Preparing and submitting compound requirements for NPD (New Product Development) parts to the material department, and following up on the progress.

15. Compiling and submitting mold capacity data to customers as per their specific requirements.

16. Preparing and handing over die master input data to the appropriate personnel.

17. Preparing for and participating in PPAP audits for all new parts and ECN Parts.

18. Handing over NPD parts to the Initial Process Control (IPC) department or directly to the production department after finalizing all process parameters.

19. Conducting customer visits to assess part manufacturing feasibility and perform joint inspections, among other purposes.

20. Identify potential areas for improvement and contribute in process improvement project.

21. Managing Engineering Change Notes (ECNs), informing internal stakeholders, and implementing necessary changes. Updating and resubmitting PPAP documents to the customer based on revised ECNs and following up for approval.

22. Preparing documentation and participating in IATF audits.

23. Handling reverse engineering projects.

Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of rubber materials (natural, synthetic, thermoplastic elastomers)

• Expertise in moulding processes: compression, injection, transfer

• Understanding of tooling design and manufacturing

Soft Skills

• Excellent communication and presentation abilities

• Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset

• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers
