Job Description for Boiler Operator .1) Operates automatically fired boilers to generate steam that supplies heat or power for buildings or industrial processes: Lights gas- or oil-fed burners, using torch.2) Starts pulverizer and stoker to grind and feed coal into furnace of boiler.3) Observes pressure, temperature, and draft meters on panel to verify specified operation of automatic combustion control systems, feed water regulators, stoker, pulverizer, and burners.4) Turns valves and adjusts controls to set specified fuel feed, draft openings, water level, and steam pressure of boiler.5) Observes boiler and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions and makes repairs, such as changing burners and tightening pipes and fittings.6) May test and treat boiler feed water, using specified chemicals.7) May maintain log of meter and gauge readings and record data, such as water test results and quantity of fuel consumed.8) May be designated according to fuel burned, type of boilers, or class of license required.

To carry out allocated tasks and duties, in particular general building servicesmaintenance. To ensure heating plant and equipment is efficiently and effectively operated,making adjustments as deemed necessary. To undertake full servicing of boilers over the summer shutdown period. Provide 1st line maintenance of fixtures and fittings, examples being thetightening of window hinges, maintenance of door handles, replacement ofdoor frames, lock changing, the resetting of overhead up/over doors, baggagesystem daily and weekly checks and adjustments, etc. Carry out remedial action after storm damage, ie boarding up of brokenwindows, temporary fencing repairs, etc. Be fully conversant and competent in the use of power tools to undertakefitting, plumbing and joinery tasks that may from time to time be required. The unblocking of sinks, taps, toilets and waste pipes, and adjustment and rewashering of taps. To ensure all gulleys and drains are kept free from debris. To undertake regular roofing inspections, and report any defects to theFacilities Supervisor. Perform scheduled maintenance servicing on all building systems and fixturesas allocated by the Facilities Supervisor. To liase with tenants and others as required. As may be required, to plan and carry out tasks and programmes that fromtime to time may be allocated to you, and are commensurate with yourknowledge base. To be conversant with Health & Safety requirements and to carry out duties asrequired under current legislation. To be aware and conversant with GPA local rules, policies and legislation aslaid down in Airport Manual, HR PGS Handbook and Emergency Orders. To carry out other reasonable duties as required.
