OverviewGround Staff are responsible for managing a range of duties at airports and airline terminals to ensure smooth operations both on the ground and in passenger areas. They play a crucial role in providing excellent customer service, ensuring flight safety and efficiency, and maintaining seamless coordination between passengers, flight crews, and other airport departments.Key Responsibilities Passenger HandlingAssist passengers with check-in procedures, boarding passes, and seat allocation.Manage luggage check-in, tagging, and ensure correct transfer to aircraft.Provide information about flight schedules, delays, cancellations, and gate changes.Handle special requests such as wheelchairs, unaccompanied minors, and VIP passengers.Ensure passenger compliance with safety and security regulations. Baggage & Cargo HandlingSupervise and coordinate the loading and unloading of passenger baggage and cargo.Verify baggage tags and ensure proper weight distribution.Manage lost or damaged baggage claims and assist passengers in tracing missing items.Maintain cargo documentation and assist with customs clearance when required. Ticketing & ReservationsHandle ticket reservations, cancellations, rebookings, and fare adjustments.Manage ticket counters and assist passengers with travel-related queries.Collect payments, issue receipts, and ensure accurate transaction records. Flight & Ramp CoordinationCoordinate with pilots, cabin crew, and air traffic control for flight readiness.Monitor arrival and departure times to avoid delays.Oversee ground operations such as fueling, cleaning, and catering.Ensure ramp safety and adherence to ground handling protocols. Job Summary:The Ramp Officer is responsible for coordinating and supervising all aircraft ramp activities to ensure safe, timely, and efficient ground handling operations. This includes overseeing baggage and cargo loading/unloading, aircraft marshalling, fueling coordination, and maintaining ramp safety standards in compliance with airport and airline procedures.Key Responsibilities:1. Aircraft Handling & CoordinationOversee aircraft arrival and departure procedures.Marshal aircraft to and from parking bays safely and efficiently.Coordinate with flight crew, dispatchers, and other ground service teams to ensure smooth turnaround.Monitor ramp operations to prevent damage to aircraft, equipment, or personnel.Ensure ground support equipment (GSE) is positioned and operated correctly.2. Baggage & Cargo OperationsSupervise loading and unloading of baggage, cargo, and mail according to load plans.Ensure proper segregation of priority, fragile, and transfer baggage.Verify weight and balance documentation before aircraft pushback.Coordinate with cargo and load control teams for accuracy and compliance.3. Safety & ComplianceEnforce all ramp safety rules and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.Conduct regular ramp safety checks and incident reporting.Ensure compliance with airport authority, airline, and DGCA safety standards.Respond immediately to emergencies or irregularities on the ramp area.4. Equipment & Resource ManagementMonitor and maintain ramp equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.Report any equipment defects or safety concerns promptly.Coordinate manpower allocation to meet flight schedules efficiently.5. Communication & DocumentationLiaise with Air Traffic Control (ATC), Operations Control, and airline representatives.Maintain accurate records of ramp operations, flight movements, and delays.Prepare reports related to ramp performance, safety incidents, or operational disruptions.Required Skills & CompetenciesKnowledge of aircraft ground handling procedures.Familiarity with GSE (Ground Support Equipment) and ramp safety protocols.Strong teamwork and communication skills.Leadership ability for supervising ground crew.High attention to safety, detail, and time efficiency.Ability to handle stressful or time-critical situations.Basic computer literacy (MS Office, ramp management systems).Qualifications & ExperienceEducation: Minimum 10+2 / Diploma or Bachelors Degree (preferably in Aviation, Logistics, or related field).Experience: 06 years in ground handling or ramp operations (airline or airport environment preferred).Certifications (Preferred):Ramp Safety TrainingAirside Driving Permit (ADP)Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) AwarenessWork ConditionsWork primarily on airport ramp/apron areas.Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.Exposure to noise, weather conditions, and time-critical operational environments.
