- Operate heart-lung machines during cardiac surgery:As a perfusionist, you will be responsible for setting up, monitoring, and operating the heart-lung machine during cardiac surgeries to support the patient's circulation and oxygenation.- Monitor patient's vital signs during surgery:You will closely monitor the patient's vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation, to ensure the patient's safety and well-being during the surgery.- Administer medications as needed:In some cases, you may need to administer medications to regulate blood pressure, fluid balance, and other physiological functions to support the patient's cardiovascular system during surgery.- Collaborate with surgeons and medical staff:You will work closely with cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other medical personnel to ensure the successful outcome of the surgery and the patient's recovery.- Maintain and calibrate equipment:It will be your responsibility to maintain and calibrate the heart-lung machine and other perfusion equipment to ensure their proper functioning and accuracy during surgeries.Skills and Expectations:- Valid certification in perfusion technology- Strong understanding of cardiovascular physiology and anatomy- Excellent communication and teamwork skills- Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions- Attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols- Willingness to work irregular hours and be on-call for emergencies.
