- Operate heart-lung machines during cardiac surgery:
As a perfusionist, you will be responsible for setting up, monitoring, and operating the heart-lung machine during cardiac surgeries to support the patient's circulation and oxygenation.
- Monitor patient's vital signs during surgery:
You will closely monitor the patient's vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation, to ensure the patient's safety and well-being during the surgery.
- Administer medications as needed:
In some cases, you may need to administer medications to regulate blood pressure, fluid balance, and other physiological functions to support the patient's cardiovascular system during surgery.
- Collaborate with surgeons and medical staff:
You will work closely with cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other medical personnel to ensure the successful outcome of the surgery and the patient's recovery.
- Maintain and calibrate equipment:
It will be your responsibility to maintain and calibrate the heart-lung machine and other perfusion equipment to ensure their proper functioning and accuracy during surgeries.
