Qualification ./ Mechanical Engineering
Reports to Managing Director (MD)
Salary ₹ 8- LPA (negotiable for an outstanding candidate)
Key responsibilities
Product costing and estimation
• Cost products end-to-end from engineering drawings and specifications.
• Prepare BOMs; calculate material weights, consumption, nesting, scrap and wastage.
• Estimate raw material, cutting, fabrication, welding, machining, casting, heat treatment, painting, labour and overhead costs.
• Include packing, freight and export documentation costs where relevant.
Costing system and rates
• Build and maintain machine-hour rates, labour rates and overhead absorption for both units.
• Set scrap and yield norms by material: MS, SS, Bright Bar, Hardox 450/500, engineering steels, castings.
• Create standard costing sheets by product family and keep a historical cost database.
• Set up or improve costing masters in the ERP.
Pricing, control and reporting
• Give pricing recommendations with margin logic for every quotation.
• Compare estimated vs actual cost on completed orders; find the cause of every major gap.
• Identify savings: material substitution, better nesting, process changes, make-vs-buy.
• Send a monthly profitability and variance report to the MD.
• Handle pricing, cost and customer data with complete confidentiality.
Coordination
• Work with Purchase (material and vendor rates), Production (cycle times, process routes) and Sales (enquiries, deadlines) for accurate, on-time quotes. Required skills
• Strong reading of mechanical and GA drawings; independent BOM and weight calculation.
• Hands-on costing of fabrication, machining, casting and industrial components.
• Material knowledge of MS, SS, Bright Bar, Hardox 450/500 and engineering steels.
• Advanced Excel; AutoCAD or other CAD for reading drawings; ERP experience preferred. • Clear communicator who can explain cost and margin to Sales and the MD.
Industry background (in order of priority) 1. 2. 3.
First priority: cement plant equipment and spares, mining equipment, bulk material handling (bucket elevators, conveyors, feeders, crushers, chutes, hoppers, wear liners). Next: heavy engineering, steel fabrication, wear-resistant steel products, foundry or machining for industrial equipment.
Acceptable only if exceptional: other industrial manufacturing with heavy fabrication content.
