Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

The Manager QA/QC will be responsible for managing the complete Quality Assurance and Quality Control function of the organization.

The role will ensure that raw materials, manufacturing processes, finished products and dispatches consistently meet approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, customer requirements and applicable compliance requirements.

The Manager QA/QC will establish robust quality systems, lead the QA/QC team, control rejection and rework, manage customer complaints and audits, drive root-cause analysis and CAPA, and continuously improve product and process quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Quality Assurance - QA

• Develop, implement and maintain the company's Quality Management System (QMS).

• Prepare and implement Quality Policies, SOPs, Work Instructions and Inspection Standards.

• Establish quality objectives, procedures and KPIs.

• Conduct internal quality and process audits.

• Ensure compliance with applicable customer and quality requirements.

• Review and improve existing quality systems and processes.

• Establish preventive quality controls to minimize defects.

• Maintain proper quality documentation and records.

• Promote a Right First Time and zero-defect culture.

B. Quality Control - QC

Manage and monitor quality at all stages:

Incoming Material → In-Process → Finishing → Assembly → Final Inspection → Packing → Dispatch

• Establish inspection standards and checklists.

• Ensure incoming material inspection.

• Ensure in-process inspection at critical manufacturing stages.

• Conduct and monitor final inspection.

• Verify dimensions, tolerances, appearance, functionality and surface finish.

• Ensure products conform to approved drawings, samples and specifications.

• Ensure non-conforming products are properly identified, segregated and controlled.

C. Raw Material & Incoming Quality

• Develop incoming inspection procedures for:

o Brass

o Iron

o Zinc

o Aluminium

o Steel

o Bought-out components

o Packaging materials

• Verify material specifications, dimensions and quality.

• Monitor supplier quality performance.

• Coordinate with Purchase and Stores regarding rejected materials.

• Maintain supplier rejection records and quality performance data.

D. In-Process Quality Control

Monitor quality during:

• Casting

• Forging

• Pressing

• CNC/VMC machining

• Drilling

• Tapping

• Grinding

• Buffing

• Polishing

• Finishing

• Plating

• Powder Coating

• PVD

• Assembly



Responsibilities include:

• First-piece approval

• Process inspection

• Critical dimension monitoring

• Process parameter control

• Defect identification

• Rejection/rework control

• Process improvement

E. Final Inspection & Product Release

Ensure finished products are inspected before dispatch for:

• Dimensions

• Tolerances

• Appearance

• Surface finish

• Plating/coating

• Colour/shade

• Assembly

• Functionality

• Strength/performance

• Packing

• Labelling

• Quantity

Ensure products are released for dispatch only after meeting defined quality requirements.

CUSTOMER QUALITY MANAGEMENT

• Handle customer quality complaints professionally and promptly.

• Investigate customer complaints and identify root causes.

• Prepare 8D, CAPA and Root Cause Analysis reports.

• Coordinate customer inspections and quality audits.

• Maintain customer complaint records and trend analysis.

• Ensure corrective actions are implemented within agreed timelines.

• Verify effectiveness of corrective actions.

• Communicate customer-specific requirements to Production and other departments.

• Monitor customer satisfaction and recurring quality issues.

ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS & CAPA

Lead quality problem-solving using:

• 5 Why Analysis

• Fishbone / Ishikawa

• Pareto Analysis

• 7 QC Tools

• Process Analysis

• Failure Analysis

Responsibilities:

• Identify root cause rather than only treating symptoms.

• Raise NCRs for significant non-conformities.

• Define corrective and preventive actions.

• Assign responsibility and target dates.

• Monitor CAPA closure.

• Verify effectiveness.

• Prevent recurrence of defects.

SUPPLIER QUALITY MANAGEMENT

• Evaluate and monitor supplier quality performance.

• Establish supplier quality standards.

• Conduct supplier audits where required.

• Monitor supplier rejection and defect trends.

• Issue Supplier Corrective Action Requests.

• Work with Purchase for supplier development.

• Support approval of new suppliers from a quality perspective.

• Maintain supplier quality scorecards.

CUSTOMER & PRODUCT SPECIFICATION CONTROL

• Ensure availability of approved drawings and specifications.

• Ensure production works only against approved drawings/samples.

• Control drawing revisions and specification changes.

• Ensure customer-specific requirements are communicated to concerned departments.

• Establish product inspection standards for new products.

• Participate in NPD, sampling and product development activities.

SURFACE FINISH & PLATING QUALITY

Ensure quality control of:

• Polishing

• Buffing

• Electroplating

• Nickel

• Chrome

• Brass finishes

• Antique finishes

• PVD

• Powder Coating

• Other decorative/protective finishes

Monitor defects such as:

• Scratches

• Dents

• Colour variation

• Uneven finish

• Stains

• Peeling

• Poor adhesion

• Plating defects

• Surface roughness

• Coating thickness variation

TESTING & CALIBRATION

• Establish product testing requirements.

• Ensure availability of appropriate testing equipment.

• Monitor calibration of measuring and testing instruments.

• Maintain calibration schedules and records.

• Ensure measuring instruments are suitable for their intended application.

• Coordinate external testing/laboratory requirements where necessary.

QUALITY TEAM MANAGEMENT

• Lead the QA/QC team effectively.

• Define responsibilities and targets for QC Inspectors.

• Allocate inspection manpower according to production requirements.

• Train QC personnel on inspection methods and quality standards.

• Conduct regular quality meetings.

• Evaluate team performance.

• Identify training requirements.

• Develop quality awareness among production employees.

• Ensure discipline and consistency in inspection practices.

PRODUCTION & CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COORDINATION

Work closely with:

• Production

• PPC

• Tool Room

• NPD/Sampling

• Purchase

• Stores

• Finishing

• Maintenance

• Dispatch

• Merchandising

The Manager QA/QC should act as a bridge between Quality and Production, ensuring that quality issues are resolved at the process level without unnecessarily affecting production schedules.

• Daily Quality Reports

• Incoming Inspection Reports

• In-Process Inspection Reports

• Final Inspection Reports

• Rejection Reports

• Rework Reports

• NCR Reports

• CAPA Reports

• 8D Reports

• Customer Complaint Reports

• Supplier Quality Reports

• Quality KPI Reports

• Monthly Quality MIS

Analyse trends for:

Rejection → Rework → Scrap → Customer Complaints → Supplier Defects → Process Defects

and initiate improvement actions.
