A New Product Development (NPD) Engineer in a casting company is responsible for translating customer requirements (drawings/3D models) into finished, high-quality castings, covering the entire lifecycle from concept to mass production. This role bridges the gap between design engineering, tooling, and manufacturing to ensure the product is functional, manufacturable, and cost-effective.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Feasibility Study: Review customer drawings (DFM/DFA) and create or modify CAD models/2D drawings. Perform casting simulations to predict defects and validate designs.

Methoding & Tooling Development: Design gating and risering systems, pattern designs, and core box requirements. Coordinate with tool rooms for die development.

Trial & Validation: Conduct sample trials (GDC/HPDC/CI/SG Iron) and validate tool performance. Optimize process parameters to achieve desired specifications.

Documentation & Quality Compliance: Prepare process flow diagrams, PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis), Control Plans, and technical reports. Manage APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documents.

Cost Management: Prepare cost estimates, define raw material grades, and optimize casting weight/machining allowances to ensure profitability.

Cross-functional Coordination: Collaborate with Sales, Production, Quality, and Vendors to ensure project milestones (timeline/cost) are met.

Required Skills:

Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of foundry casting techniques (GDC/HPDC/CI/SG Iron) and machining (CNC/VMC).

CAD Tools: Proficiency in software like SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.

Simulation Software: Experience with MAGMA or ProCAST is highly preferred.

Quality Standards: Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, and IATF standards.

Problem-Solving: Strong skills in root cause analysis for casting defects.
