Job Summary:
The Field Engineer – FTTH is responsible for the on-site installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fiber optic network infrastructure at customer premises and within the field network. This role plays a key part in ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of FTTH services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Installation & Commissioning
• Install fiber optic cables, ONTs (Optical Network Terminals), splitters, and other equipment at customer premises.
• Perform splicing and termination of fiber cables, ensuring low loss and proper signal flow.
• Conduct OTDR and power meter tests to verify and certify installation quality.
2. Fault Diagnosis & Repair
• Identify and troubleshoot faults in the fiber network (both at the customer end and in the field).
• Resolve physical connectivity issues, hardware failures, and signal loss problems.
• Perform emergency repairs and service restoration with minimal downtime.
3. Site Surveys
• Conduct site surveys for new connections to assess feasibility, cable routing, and material requirements.
• Coordinate with customers to finalize installation plans based on site conditions.
4. Customer Interaction
• Provide technical support and guidance to customers during and after installation.
• Explain basic FTTH equipment operation and service usage to end-users.
• Handle customer complaints or escalations professionally and efficiently.
5. Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain records of installation details, service calls, test results, and material usage.
• Prepare daily reports and submit updates to supervisors or management.
6. Equipment Handling
• Safely handle and transport FTTH tools, splicing machines, OTDRs, ladders, and fiber reels.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of all field equipment.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Diploma/ITI in Electronics, Electrical, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in FTTH network installations and field operations (freshers with training can be considered).
• Hands-on experience with fiber splicing, OTDR testing, and optical power measurement tools.
• Understanding of GPON technology and FTTH network architecture.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks in the field.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Willingness to travel and work flexible hours as needed.
Preferred Certifications (Optional):
• FTTH Council Certified Installer or equivalent
• Basic safety training or fiber handling certification
