Operating Room Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of OR Nurses include (but are not limited to): Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans Conducts pre- and post-operative education Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team Takes and monitors patients vital signs Ensures that operating on correct patient and the correct procedure is being performed Provides basic, bedside care Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms Preps operating room for patient/procedure Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology Monitors patients physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their post-treatment home care needs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting During the surgical procedure, OR Nurses can take the role of: Circulating Nurse, with the following additional duties: Assists in positioning, responding to comfort/safety of patient Provides for accurate care and handling of specimens Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis Observes,

Finalisation of Accounts: Scrutinising ledgers, reconcile the accounts if necessary, and prepare the Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet. Liaisoning with the auditors by providing all the information asked by them and complete the audit. Statutory Compliances: Ensuring that all the statutory payments are made on time. Preparation of MIS: Preparation of Daily reports, monthly flash report and other financial information as and when required. Liaisoning with Banks/Financial Institutions: Monthly submission of stock statements and any information asked by the banker/Financial Institutions. Payroll: Computation of Income Tax on salaries and verification of salary workings, computed by HRD before making the payments. Daily collections/payments: Supervise all the activities of the Sr. Cashier and help him solve the problems, if any. Physical verification of cash balances once in two days. Keeping track of insurance details. Billing : Supervise the activities of Billing Supervisor and assist them in solving the problems and see that the billing functions smoothly. Maintenance of accounts relating to sundry creditors and bills payable. Receipt of bills, GRNs and other connected paper from material stores, pharmacy stores, F & B, House Keeping and Linen & Transport. Making necessary entries in Accounting Software. Supervision of cheque preparations and initialing of cheque payment vouchers for proper authenticity. Preparation of necessary papers for getting Foreign Demand Drafts. Checking cash bills (Material, Pharmacy, and F & B) and forwarding to cashier for payment. Preparation of Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss Account and other statement whenever the concerned person is on leave. Reconciliation of sundry creditors. To take a around in all the wards to check whether patients have taken a bath etc. To start with [SDM] Sweeping, Dusting and mopping in the ward To take the patient to do X-Ray, Sonograpy, 2 D Echo and C.T. Scan. They have to wait there till the procedure is done. In emergency, several time staff has to go down to Pharmacy Department to bring medicines. To provide Urinal and Commode to male patients and clean the urinals, bedpans and commodes. Bed making is done in the ward To clean the bathroom [10 bathrooms in 4th Floor and 13bathrooms in 5th Floor] To empty the dustbin To clean the dustbin with scrubber is done every Saturday. To clean the furniture of the wards To shift the patients to OT To shift the patients from O.T to Ward. To carry Blood sample to the Pathology Department. To remove all the Biomedical waste from dust bin To make Ganjee pad, Ganjee Roll, Gauze piece in every shift

To ensure proper working and maintenance of equipment in catheterisation laboratory. To liaise with Biomedical engineer and supplier of equipment to facilitate proper functioning of the equipment. To supervise the work of Junior Technicians, help junior technicians, and other staff in the catheterisation laboratory. To assist Cardiologist during the procedure. To keep record of consumables used during the procedure, record of the procedure and the results of the procedure. To maintain and provide when required the electronic data. To ensure all protocol and billing procedures are followed. To coordinate the change of films in badges. To be available whenever required for procedures (Emergencies also) To follow and maintain all standards of quality as required by the organizational standards.
