In 2026, a Manager of Production & Planning (P&P) acts as the bridge between sales demand and manufacturing execution. This role is no longer just about scheduling shifts; it involves managing Smart Factories where AI-driven forecasting meets lean manufacturing principles to ensure maximum efficiency with zero waste.

Job Summary

The Production & Planning Manager is responsible for the end-to-end coordination of the manufacturing process. Your goal is to ensure that products are manufactured on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. You will oversee resource allocation, inventory management, and shop-floor scheduling while continuously optimizing workflows to reduce lead times and operational costs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Scheduling & Strategy

Master Production Schedule (MPS): Develop and maintain the MPS based on sales forecasts and historical data to ensure 100% on-time delivery.

Capacity Planning: Analyze machine and labor capacity to identify bottlenecks and implement Load Leveling (Heijunka) strategies.

Material Requirements Planning (MRP): Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure raw materials are available just-in-time (JIT) to prevent production halts.

2. Operational Excellence

Lean Manufacturing: Lead Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives using Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma methodologies to eliminate waste.

OEE Optimization: Monitor and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by reducing downtime and improving machine cycle times.

Quality Assurance: Collaborate with the Quality Control (QC) department to ensure all output meets ISO or industry-specific standards.

3. Inventory & Cost Control

Work-in-Progress (WIP): Minimize WIP inventory levels to improve cash flow and reduce storage costs.

Budget Management: Oversee the production budget, focusing on reducing Cost per Unit while maintaining worker safety and product integrity.

4. Tech & Team Leadership

Digital Transformation: Oversee the integration of ERP/MES systems (like SAP, Oracle, or Plex) to track real-time production data.

Manpower Management: Lead, train, and mentor production supervisors and operators, fostering a culture of safety and high performance.
