role description:
this is a full-time on-site role based in kitwe for a tetra pak / pls / aseptic packaging technician at finta farms. the role involves operating, supervising, maintaining, and troubleshooting tetra pak and other aseptic filling and packaging systems to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality production. responsibilities include overseeing packing operations, monitoring production processes for efficiency and compliance, performing routine and corrective maintenance, ensuring product quality control, and adhering to industry standards and safety regulations.
key responsibilities
- machine operation & production:
operate and monitor tetra pak, pls or equivalent aseptic filling machines (., tba/tpa lines or similar)
ensure correct machine setup for different skus, pack sizes, and products
achieve daily production targets with minimal downtime
- maintenance & troubleshooting:
perform preventive and corrective maintenance on filling, sealing, and packaging equipment
diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and basic plc-related issues
coordinate with maintenance teams for major breakdowns and overhauls
- quality & food safety:
ensure strict compliance with food safety standards
monitor aseptic conditions, cip/sip processes, and packaging integrity
report and address quality deviations immediately
- utilities & support systems:
work with supporting systems such as uht units, compressors, boilers, chillers, and cip systems
monitor utilities consumption and report abnormalities
- documentation & reporting:
maintain machine logs, downtime reports, and maintenance records
assist in audits and inspections (internal and external)
- team & training:
support and guide machine operators and junior technicians
communicate effectively with production, quality, and engineering teams
qualifications:
- minimum 4 years hands-on experience with tetra pak, pls or similar aseptic packaging machines
- strong understanding of: aseptic filling technology, uht milk / juice processing, cip/sip systems, ability to read technical manuals, electrical diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- excellent communication skills for collaboration and effective reporting
- ability to work in an on-site production environment with attention to safety and efficiency
previous experience in aseptic packaging, specifically with tetra pak equipment, is highly desirable
education:
- diploma or certificate in:
- mechanical engineering
- electrical engineering
- industrial maintenance
- mechatronics
(or equivalent technical qualification and/or experience)
soft skills:
- strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
- attention to detail and hygiene
- ability to work under pressure and shifts
- good communication and teamwork skills
preferred / advantageous experience
- experience in dairy, juice, or beverage manufacturing
- prior work with uht milk, flavored milk, juices, or yogurt
- exposure to tetra pak or pls machines
