A Design Engineer in a surgical instrument manufacturing company is responsible for developing, testing, and optimizing specialized surgical tools, orthopedic implants, and manufacturing fixtures. This role requires creating detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software SolidWorks while ensuring compliance with stringent medical regulatory standards (FDA, ISO ) and applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Development: Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of surgical instruments and fixtures using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or NX.

DFM and Optimization: Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to optimize production processes such as molding, machining, or welding.

Prototyping and Testing: Build, test, and analyze prototypes, including using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) for durability and fatigue testing.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs meet industry standards (FDA, CE MDR, ISO ) and maintain technical documentation.

Collaboration: Work with clinical specialists to understand user needs, observe clinical cases, and collaborate with VMC/CNC programmers for production troubleshooting.

Continuous Improvement: Troubleshoot manufacturing defects, update designs based on feedback, and support tooling design.
