Job Summary:
The GPR Operator conducts subsurface investigations using Ground Penetrating Radar and other utility detection equipment. The role involves identifying underground utilities, voids, reinforcement, and other buried features while ensuring accurate data collection, interpretation, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Operate Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) equipment to perform underground surveys.
Detect and locate buried utilities such as water, gas, electrical, telecom, and sewer lines.
Perform concrete scanning to identify rebar, post-tension cables, conduits, and voids before drilling or cutting.
Prepare accurate survey drawings.
Mark detected underground utilities according to project requirements.
Maintain and calibrate GPR equipment and associated survey instruments.
Follow project specifications, safety procedures, and industry standards.
Coordinate with engineers, surveyors, and project managers.
Maintain field records, photographs, and documentation.
Travel to project sites as required.
Required Qualifications
ITI, Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Surveying, or a related field (preferred).
Experience Certificate from present employer in Ground Penetrating Radar operation is an advantage.
Experience in utility locating, geophysical surveys, or concrete scanning is preferred.
Required Skills
Proficiency in operating GPR equipment.
Understanding of underground utility mapping and detection techniques.
Ability to interpret radargrams and survey data.
Knowledge of CAD or GIS software is an advantage.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Good communication abilities.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Working Conditions
Field-based work at construction sites, roads, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects.
Frequent travel to project locations.
May require lifting equipment and working in confined or challenging environments.
Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all health and safety regulations.
Preferred Experience
1-5 years of experience in GPR surveys, utility locating, or geophysical investigations.
Experience with electromagnetic locators, GPS, total stations, or surveying equipment is an added advantage.
Familiarity with utility mapping standards and construction site safety practices.
