Job Description

A Chinese Chef is responsible for preparing authentic Chinese cuisine and managing kitchen operations related to Chinese dishes. Below is a typical job requirement description used by restaurants and hotels.

1. Education & Training

Diploma or certification in Culinary Arts or Chinese Cuisine from a recognized institute.

Training in traditional Chinese cooking methods such as stir-frying, steaming, roasting, and deep-frying.

2. Work Experience

Usually 25 years of experience as a Chinese Chef or in a Chinese kitchen.

Experience working in Chinese restaurants, hotels, or Asian cuisine kitchens.

3. Skills Required

Strong knowledge of Chinese cooking techniques (wok cooking, sauce preparation, noodle and rice dishes).

Ability to prepare dishes like:

Fried rice

Noodles

Dim sum

Manchurian

Sweet and sour dishes

Good knife skills and food presentation.

Knowledge of kitchen hygiene and food safety.

Ability to work fast in a busy kitchen.

4. Responsibilities

Prepare and cook Chinese dishes according to menu standards.

Maintain quality, taste, and presentation of food.

Manage ingredients and kitchen inventory.

Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen.

Train junior cooks or kitchen helpers if required.

Create or suggest new Chinese menu items.

5. Personal Qualities

Creativity in cooking.

Ability to work under pressure.

Teamwork and communication skills.

Attention to detail.

Optional Requirements (Some Employers Ask For):

Knowledge of Indo-Chinese cuisine.
