an air hostess is responsible for ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of passengers during flights. the role combines aviation safety responsibilities with exceptional customer service, making the air hostess a vital link between the airline and its passengers.
key responsibilities
safety & security
conduct pre-flight checks of safety equipment and the cabin area.
deliver safety demonstrations and ensure passenger compliance with safety regulations.
respond to in-flight emergencies, including medical incidents, turbulence, and evacuations.
administer first aid, cpr, and use emergency medical equipment when required.
monitor passenger behavior and act according to aviation security guidelines.
passenger service
greet passengers and assist with boarding, seating, and baggage placement.
provide food, beverages, and amenities during the flight.
handle passenger requests and complaints with professionalism and empathy.
assist passengers with special needs, including children, elderly, and differently-abled travelers.
promote and manage onboard duty-free sales and other airline services.
operational duties
coordinate with cockpit crew for safe and efficient flight operations.
ensure cabin cleanliness, readiness, and compliance before and during flights.
assist passengers with customs and immigration documentation on international routes.
complete flight-related paperwork, including reports, sales records, and incident logs.
follow airline standard operating procedures (sops) and aviation authority regulations.
required skills & competencies
strong knowledge of aviation safety and emergency protocols
first aid, cpr, and aed certified (preferred)
excellent communication and interpersonal skills
cultural awareness and sensitivity for international passengers
customer service orientation with conflict resolution ability
professional grooming and etiquette standards
ability to remain calm, confident, and decisive under pressure
physical fitness and stamina for long and irregular shifts
qualifications
minimum: high school diploma (bachelor’s degree in hospitality/tourism preferred)
certified cabin crew training from a recognized aviation authority or institute
fluency in english (additional languages highly desirable)
previous experience in customer service, aviation, or hospitality preferred
flexibility to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and long-haul flights
