MIG Welder Responsibilities:Selecting, measuring, cutting, and joining appropriate metals to specifications.Preparing metals and work surfaces to ensure safe and effective assemblage.Interpreting specifications and blueprints accurately.Training welding apprentices and mentoring recruits.Regularly cleaning and inspecting welding equipment and tools.Operating cranes and other machinery to transport materials to welding worksites.Determining correct gas ratios.Testing the strength of each join during and after project completion.Diagnosing issues and troubleshooting as required.Liaising with the line manager or supervisor, reporting any issues, and making suggestions for improvement.

Job Description:Lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames, bridge parts, and pressure vessels, using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements. Includes experimental welders who analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan welding operations where procedural information is unavailable.Job Duties and Tasks for: Welder-Fitter1) Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.2) Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.3) Cuts workpiece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife.4) Melts lead bar, wire, or scrap to add lead to joint or to extrude melted scrap into reusable form.5) Installs or repairs equipment, such as lead pipes, valves, floors, and tank linings.6) Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.7) Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.8) Removes rough spots from workpiece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.9) Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.10) Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.11) Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.Is being a Welder-Fitter your very best career choice?Our Career Interest Test will show you which careers match your interests.Our Free Personality Test will show you which careers match your personality and why.12) Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.13) Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.14) Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge

1.Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements2.Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)3.Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded4.Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces5.Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
