Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.
Use computers, computer-aided design technology, structural design software (STAAD, ETABS, ETC) for design, analysis and simulation purposes.
Using computer simulations to predict how structures will react under different conditions.
Inspect properties to evaluate the conditions and foundations.
Provide designs and produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by Designers/Drafters.
Calculate the loads, pressures, stresses and strains that each component, such as a beam, column, etc. will experience from parts of the structure due to human use or environmental pressures such as weather or earthquakes.
Consider the strength of construction materials and select appropriately
Analyze configurations of the basic components of a structure
Provide technical advice on safe designs and construction.
Perform field activities such as observe and record existing field conditions, take and verify measurements within project area.
Work with geotechnical engineers to investigate ground conditions and analyze results of soil sample and in situ tests
Inspecting unsafe buildings and recommending options for repairs or demolition
Making sure that projects meet legal guidelines, environmental directives, and health and safety requirements.
May serve as Project Engineer and as a designated Client contact on smaller, less complex projects.
Develop probable construction cost estimates for projects and preparing bids for tenders
May direct and supervise other Designers/Drafters activities.
Coordinate work with other disciplines such as architectural, mechanical, electrical, etc.
Monitor and inspect all work undertaken by contractors to ensure structural soundness.
Attend and participate in Client meetings.
Capable and experienced in managing and performing projects in a fast paced environment.
