key responsibilities
1. programming & simulation
code generation: writing and editing g-codes and m-codes manually or using cam software (like mastercam, delcam, or nx-cam).
technical interpretation: reading and interpreting 2d engineering drawings and 3d models.
optimization: fine-tuning feed rates, spindle speeds, and tool paths to reduce cycle time and improve surface finish.
simulation: running digital simulations to prevent crashes or tool collisions before the actual run.
2. machine setup & operation
workholding: setting up jigs, fixtures, and vices to secure raw materials (workpieces).
tooling: selecting and mounting the correct cutting tools into the automatic tool changer (atc).
offsets: setting work offsets (g54-g59) and tool length/diameter offsets.
production: operating the machine for small batches or mass production, ensuring the process remains stable.
3. quality & maintenance
inspection: using precision instruments like micrometers, vernier calipers, and bore gauges to check finished parts.
problem solving: troubleshooting program errors or machine alarms during the shift.
machine care: performing daily maintenance like coolant checks, lubrication, and chip removal.
