general responsibilities

- provides compassionate care to pets.

- performs all duties in accordance with clinical policies and procedures.

- assists the doctor in medical and surgical procedures; prepares patients for surgery; assists the doctor in administering anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids.

- sending tissue and fluid samples to a lab for analysis

- provide specialized nursing care for injured or ill animals.

- gives injections and administers oral medications in accordance with clinical policy.

- assure that monitoring and support equipment such as anesthetic machines, cardiac monitors, scopes and breathing apparatus are in good working condition.

- maintains an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies as determined by the inventory control system.

- work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.

pre surgical responsibilities

- admit patients scheduled for anaestheti procedures ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state.

- prepares and maintains the exam rooms and treatment areas before appointments

- prepare patients, instruments and equipment for surgery; clean, maintain and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials.

- prepare surgery suite for surgery in collaboration with surgery assistant

- perform induction/intubation and all pre-anaesthetic procedures, including patient preparation.

surgical and post-surgical responsibilities

- performs emergency procedures such as bleeding control, oxygen resuscitation, opening airways, and external cardiac massage.

- administer fluids and blood products as the veterinarian prescribes; use and maintain iv pumps.

- administer and monitor anaesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian.

- monitor patients post-operatively.

- clean surgery suite and instruments following clinical sterilization protocols.
