JOB DESCRIPTION

General Responsibilities

- Provides compassionate care to pets.

- Performs all duties in accordance with Clinical Policies and procedures.

- Assists the doctor in medical and surgical procedures; prepares patients for surgery; assists the doctor in administering anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids.

- Sending tissue and fluid samples to a lab for analysis

- Provide specialized nursing care for injured or ill animals.

- Gives injections and administers oral medications in accordance with clinical policy.

- Assure that monitoring and support equipment such as anesthetic machines, cardiac monitors, scopes and breathing apparatus are in good working condition.

- Maintains an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies as determined by the inventory control system.

- Work well with all team members and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy.

Pre Surgical Responsibilities

- Admit patients scheduled for anaestheti procedures ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state.

- Prepares and maintains the exam rooms and treatment areas before appointments

- Prepare patients, instruments and equipment for surgery; clean, maintain and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials.

- Prepare surgery suite for surgery in collaboration with surgery assistant

- Perform induction/intubation and all pre-anaesthetic procedures, including patient preparation.

Surgical and Post-Surgical Responsibilities

- Performs emergency procedures such as bleeding control, oxygen resuscitation, opening airways, and external cardiac massage.

- Administer fluids and blood products as the veterinarian prescribes; use and maintain IV pumps.

- Administer and monitor anaesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian.

- Monitor patients post-operatively.

- Clean surgery suite and instruments following clinical sterilization protocols.
