Job Summary
A Special Educator designs and implements individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs. They collaborate with parents, general education teachers, therapists, and school administrators to create inclusive and supportive learning environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Individualized Instruction
Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Modify curriculum to meet students specific learning needs
Use specialized teaching strategies and tools
2. Assessment & Evaluation
Assess students academic performance and developmental progress
Monitor and document progress toward IEP goals
Conduct formal and informal evaluations
3. Classroom Management
Create structured and supportive learning environments
Manage behavioral challenges using positive behavior support strategies
Encourage social skills development
4. Collaboration
Work closely with parents/guardians
Coordinate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and counselors
Participate in IEP meetings and school planning sessions
5. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate student records
Ensure compliance with education laws and school policies
Required Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education
State teaching certification/licensure (varies by location)
