A Solar Technician installs, maintains, inspects, and repairs solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. They ensure solar systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with electrical codes and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Install solar panels, mounting systems, inverters, batteries, and electrical wiring.
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on solar PV systems.
Diagnose and repair system faults, electrical issues, and equipment failures.
Test system performance using diagnostic tools and monitoring software.
Read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, and technical manuals.
Ensure installations comply with local building codes and electrical standards.
Maintain accurate service reports, maintenance logs, and installation records.
Follow workplace safety procedures, including fall protection and electrical safety.
Communicate with customers regarding system performance, maintenance, and repairs.
Collaborate with electricians, engineers, and project managers to complete installations on schedule.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Technical training or certification in solar energy, electrical systems, or a related field.
Knowledge of photovoltaic (PV) systems and electrical principles.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment.
Basic understanding of electrical codes and safety regulations.
Valid driver's license (preferred by many employers).
Ability to work at heights and lift up to 50 pounds (23 kg).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience installing or maintaining solar PV systems.
Certification such as North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners PV Installation Professional or PV Associate.
Electrical apprenticeship or electrician's license.
Experience with battery energy storage systems and monitoring software.
