About the Role
Catapult Recruitment Solutions is hiring on behalf of a heavy engineering company in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, expanding into cryogenic equipment manufacturing. We're looking for a Senior Engineer - Cryo Equipment to lead the design, development, and testing of cryogenic fuel tanks and related systems. This is a high-visibility role reporting directly to the CEO, ideal for an engineer who wants to help build a new business line from the ground up rather than operate within an established one. The role is suited to someone with a strong grounding in cryogenic vessel design, working toward the caliber of engineering seen at specialized cryogenic equipment manufacturers such as CTR Cryo and Cryolor.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop cryogenic fuel tanks and related cryogenic equipment - sizing, detailed engineering, and fabrication drawings.
• Perform thermal analysis, vacuum insulation design, and cryogenic fluid handling calculations to optimize tank performance and heat-leak control.
• Select and specify accessories including valves, piping, safety relief devices, and insulation systems.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards such as ASME and PED.
• Liaise with statutory authorities, including PESO, for regulatory approvals of cryogenic equipment.
• Prepare and implement QA/QC plans, QAP, and ITP documentation for cryogenic vessel manufacturing.
• Support manufacturing and fabrication teams in translating designs into production, including static, mobile, and storage cryogenic vessels.
• Troubleshoot design and system-level issues, including field failures and complex cryogenic system problems.
• Develop and standardize safety protocols for cryogenic tank design, handling, and testing.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams (production, procurement, quality) and support the project from design through commissioning.
• Identify opportunities for design optimization, cost reduction, and continuous improvement in cryogenic engineering practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Postgraduate or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in cryogenic tank/vessel design (static, mobile, or storage).
• Working knowledge of PESO approvals and statutory compliance for pressure/cryogenic equipment.
• Strong understanding of cryogenic fluid handling, vacuum technology, and thermal analysis.
• Experience with ASME / PED codes and QA/QC documentation (QAP, ITP).
• Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex system failures.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
About You (Preferred Profile)
• Ideally brings deep specialization in cryogenic systems for industrial, fuel tank, or aerospace applications, with exposure to standardized safety protocol development and cryogenic tank design optimization for customer-specific applications.
• Prior experience at a specialized cryogenic equipment company (., CTR Cryo, Cryolor, INOX India/INOXCVA, VRV Asia Pacific, Chart Industries, Linde) is a strong plus.
• Experience leading or mentoring junior engineers is an advantage, though not required at the 5-year experience level.
• Familiarity with FEA/simulation tools for thermal and structural analysis.
