The primary duty is to receive order details through a handheld device or system and pick the correct items from shelves as per the customers request. They must ensure the right quantity, brand, and product quality while following the FIFO (First In First Out) method to manage stock properly.
After picking the items, the picker/packer carefully packs them using appropriate packaging materials to prevent damage during transit. Fragile, perishable, and heavy items must be handled and packed separately. Checking expiry dates, product condition, and packaging quality is essential before sealing the order.
They also assist in maintaining inventory by arranging shelves, updating stock information, and informing supervisors about low or out-of-stock items. Regular stock counting and audits may be part of the responsibility.
Maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and safety standards inside the store is important. Picker/packers must work efficiently, especially during peak hours, and coordinate with delivery partners to ensure timely dispatch of orders. Accuracy, speed, physical stamina, and basic system-handling skills are important for this role.
