1. Job objective

The Iron Pellets Manager at Varahi TMT will be responsible for managing iron pellet procurement, supplier relationships, quality assessment, pricing, inventory, logistics, and supply planning. The role ensures consistent availability of quality iron ore pellets at competitive costs to meet the company's business and operational requirements.

2. Key job responsibilities

1. Procurement and sourcing

- Identify and develop reliable iron pellet manufacturers, suppliers, and traders.

- Plan procurement based on production requirements, customer demand, and stock availability.

- Negotiate purchase prices, payment terms, and supply contracts.

2. Quality management

- Understand iron pellet specifications, including total Fe, FeO, silica, alumina, phosphorus, moisture, and size distribution.

- Review laboratory test reports and quality certificates.

- Coordinate sampling, inspection, quality approvals, and supplier claims.

- Ensure purchased pellets meet the company's approved specifications.

3. Supplier and vendor management

- Maintain relationships with pellet plants, suppliers, and transporters.

- Evaluate vendors on quality, price, reliability, and delivery performance.

- Resolve supply shortages, quality disputes, and delivery-related issues.

4. Pricing and cost control

- Monitor iron pellet market prices, availability, and industry trends.

- Calculate landed cost per tonne, including freight and applicable handling charges.

- Identify cost-saving opportunities through negotiation and sourcing optimization.

- Track procurement budgets and cost variations.

5. Inventory and stock management

- Monitor pellet stock levels, inward receipts, consumption, and dispatches.

- Reconcile physical stock with ERP or stock records.

- Coordinate with stores and production teams to prevent shortages or excess inventory.

- Investigate material losses, shortages, and stock discrepancies.

6. Logistics and transportation

- Coordinate truck placement, transportation, loading, unloading, and delivery schedules.

- Verify weighbridge slips, invoices, delivery challans, and applicable mineral transit documents.

- Monitor freight expenses, transit delays, and material handling losses.

7. Documentation and reporting

- Maintain purchase orders, supplier records, quality certificates, invoices, and delivery documents.

- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly procurement and inventory reports.

- Report price movements, stock positions, supplier performance, and cost trends to management.

8. Coordination and compliance

- Work closely with accounts, logistics, production, quality control, and senior management.

- Ensure procurement and transportation activities follow company policies and applicable statutory requirements.

- Support audits and maintain accurate commercial documentation.

3. Required skill set

Technical skills

Iron pellet grades, Fe content, FeO, moisture, gangue impurities, size distribution, pellet strength and laboratory reports.

Procurement skills

Supplier sourcing, purchase planning, vendor evaluation, contract management and commercial negotiation.

Costing and pricing

Landed cost per tonne, freight calculation, procurement budgeting and market price analysis.

Inventory management

Stock reconciliation, material planning, stock turnover, consumption tracking and ERP records.

Logistics knowledge

Bulk transportation, truck planning, weighbridge operations, delivery scheduling and freight control.

Software skills

MS Excel, ERP systems, inventory management software and MIS reporting.

Managerial skills

Team leadership, decision-making, communication, problem-solving and cross-functional coordination.

Compliance knowledge

Purchase documentation, quality certificates, invoicing and applicable mineral transportation regulations.

4. Educational qualifications and experience

- Education: Degree or diploma in Metallurgy, Mining, Mineral Processing, Engineering, Commerce, or a related field.

- Experience: Typically 5-10 years in iron pellet procurement, raw materials management, steel manufacturing, or bulk commodity trading.

- Industry preference: Steel plants, pellet plants, iron ore trading companies, or industrial raw material procurement.

- Additional advantage: Established supplier network, knowledge of pellet market pricing, and experience in negotiating bulk procurement contracts.
