Job Description - MID-LEVEL INTERIOR DESIGNER
Qualification: Diploma/ Bachelor's / master’s degree in interior design
Experience: 06 -08+ years, with demonstrated ownership of projects end-to-end
LOCATION: FORT, MUMBAI (Candidates to be from SOUTH MUMBAI)
Salary: As per experience and current compensation; to be negotiated
Reporting Line: Directly to the Project Lead / Principal Interior Designer.
Role Summary
The Interior Designer will independently lead the design conceptualisation, technical development, and execution oversight of assigned commercial, residential, and institutional projects - operating as the design authority and single point of accountability for their portfolio, including projects where they are based away from the core studio team.
Preliminary Skills
• Strong design aptitude, able to develop and carry project design intent through a designated team from concept to execution.
• Prior experience in design practice comparable to BRIC Design Group is preferred.
• Confident, articulate representative of the BRIC design philosophy to clients, consultants, and vendors.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of junior & team towards distinctive design outcomes with contemporary finishes.
• Capable of carrying a design idea from concept through client sign-off to the site Project Manager for execution, with clear documentation at each handover.
• Exposure to international design education or practice is an advantage.
Primary Key Skills
• Experience exclusively in Interior Design Companies with exposure to residential, institutional, and commercial projects. (Candidates from Developer/Construction companies will not be considered)
• Possess excellent Design compatibility skills.
• Well-versed in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Photoshop to execute detailed MID-LEVEL drawings and PPTs.
• Candidates She/he is responsible for producing high-quality project design drawings and deliverables in both FF&E and construction documents.
• The Designer is to work on any/all phases of development including Pre-Design, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, Site Construction and Final As-Built Drawings & Documentation.
• Effective coordination with Project Coordinators, Structural, and MEP Consultants, largely over calls, email, and shared platforms
• To report to the Design Associate and assist at all levels of project development and execution.
• Consistently bring fresh value-add ideas to the team that are project-appropriate.
• Well-versed in quantifying Bill of Quantities both detailed & single-line BOQ
• Multitasking on multiple projects with drawings & material procurements.
• Responsible for supporting the Project Lead in achieving design and technical excellence and working in a collaborative framework within the assigned budgets.
• Prepares for regular project team and/or client meetings on project tasks, deliverables and timelines. Prepare the minutes of the meetings.
• Dedicated to work ethics and punctual with work deliverables
Commercial & Quantity Knowledge (BOQ)
• Working knowledge of Bills of Quantities (BOQ) - able to actively participate in BOQ preparation aligned to the allocated project budget, not merely review it.
• Ability to independently review, update, and reconcile BOQs against site progress, flagging inclusions, exclusions, and variations as they arise.
• Comfortable reading and validating quantity take-offs, rate analyses, and vendor/contractor quotations against the approved BOQ.
• Tracks cost implications of design or material changes in real time and communicates budget impact proactively rather than after the fact.
• Maintains adherence to project schedules and budgets as a personal accountability metric, not just a reporting obligation.
• Technical Software & Drawing Skills
• Hands-on proficiency in AutoCAD is mandatory - the candidate must be able to personally draft, edit, and detail drawings, not only review or delegate them.
• Able to independently produce and markup working drawings, GFC (Good-for-Construction) drawings, sections, elevations, and detail drawings when required, without depending solely on the drafting team.
• Capable of stepping in to directly design, sketch, or redline layouts and details on short notice - particularly valuable when working away from the core studio team, where quick turnaround on a personally executed drawing can unblock a site query.
• Working knowledge of SketchUp, 3ds Max, or similar 3D visualisation tools to develop and communicate design intent is preferred.
• Comfortable using Photoshop or similar tools for presentation drawings, renders, and mood boards.
• Proficient with MS Office (Excel in particular, for BOQ trackers and schedules) and cloud-based file-sharing platforms for drawing version control.
• Able to read, cross-check, and correct structural and MEP drawings for coordination clashes, even without a structural/MEP consultant physically present.
Ownership, Accountability & Independent Working
• Demonstrated ability to operate as the authority on a project without daily in-person oversight, exercising sound judgement within a clearly defined scope of authority.
• Disciplined in proactive, structured reporting - regular written status updates, BOQ trackers, and site progress notes shared with the Studio/Principal on an agreed cadence, without needing to be chased.
• Escalates issues, delays, and budget deviations promptly and with complete information, rather than waiting to be asked.
• Comfortable using digital collaboration tools (video calls, shared drives, project trackers) as the primary mode of coordination with the core studio team.
• Self-driven in following up with consultants, vendors, and site teams to keep the project on schedule,
• Maintains the same documentation and quality discipline expected at the head office, ensuring drawings, approvals, and BOQ records are always audit-ready.
• Open to travel for site visits, client meetings, and studio check-ins as required by the project calendar.
Cost, Vendors & Site Execution
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of, and strict adherence to, the prepared Bill of Quantities, updating it promptly for inclusions or exclusions of items.
• Conduct thorough interactions and checks with suppliers and vendors on materials being supplied.
• Monitor the application of sourced materials on site against the design intent.
• Adapt plans to resolve construction or technical issues as they arise on site.
• Remain consistently available to the site supervisor and project team for queries and solutions,
• Attend field reviews, on-site meetings, and project meetings, and coordinate schedule reviews - in person where required and virtually otherwise.
