position summary:-
the housekeeping staff is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitization across the hospital premises. this role ensures patient safety, infection control compliance, and a clean healing environment in line with hospital quality standards.
key responsibilities:-
1. cleaning & sanitization
- maintain cleanliness of wards, opds, icus, ots, washrooms, corridors, staircases, and public areas.
- perform dusting, mopping, scrubbing, polishing, and deep cleaning as per daily and schedule-based checklists.
- ensure proper sanitization of high-touch areas bed rails, doorknobs, nurse stations, lift buttons, switches etc.
- replace bed sheets, pillow covers, blankets, and manage laundry dispatch/receipt.
2. hospital infection control compliance
- follow infection control and biomedical waste segregation protocols (red/yellow/blue/white bins).
- assist in terminal cleaning of isolation rooms, ots, icu beds, and discharge rooms.
- maintain use of ppe kits, gloves, masks as per hygiene standard.
- support fumigation, uv sanitization, deep cleaning activities as required.
3. patient-area maintenance
- ensure patient rooms are clean, odor-free, and well-maintained.
- refill hand wash, sanitizer, tissue rolls, toilet supplies regularly.
- assist in shifting patients belongings with dignity and care.
4. waste management
- collect, segregate and transport biomedical and general waste to designated storage areas.
- ensure timely disposal of garbage and upkeep of waste collection points.
5. stock & utility handling
- responsible for cleaning supplies/chemical usage and stock reporting.
- operate housekeeping tools & machines vacuum cleaner, scrubber, wringer trolley etc.
- report maintenance issues (leakage, damages, equipment failure) to supervisor immediately.
skills & attributes:-
- understanding of hospital hygiene & sanitation practices.
- ability to read/understand basic instructions.
- physical stamina, disciplined work ethics, time management.
- positive attitude, polite behaviour with patients, staff & attendants.
- willingness to work in rotation shifts.
qualification & experience:-
- minimum 8th/10th pass.
- prior experience in hospital housekeeping preferred.
- training in infection control & waste management will be an added advantage.
