Ground handling staff are essential airport employees who manage aircraft and passenger services on the ground, ensuring safety and punctuality, including check-in, boarding, baggage handling, and aircraft servicing. Responsibilities range from managing boarding gates to ramp operations like towing, refueling, and loading baggage, requiring physical stamina, communication skills, and compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Passenger Service (Terminal): Checking in passengers, verifying documents, tagging baggage, boarding, handling special assistance passengers (PRMs), and managing lost/damaged luggage.
Ramp Services (Airside): Guiding aircraft to parking bays (marshalling), operating ground support equipment (belt loaders, tugs), loading/unloading cargo, and cleaning aircraft cabins.
Aircraft Technical & Safety: Conducting safety checks, performing pushback and towing, refueling, and de-icing.
Documentation & Coordination: Preparing load sheets, communicating with flight crews, and ensuring adherence to safety/security regulations.
Job Requirements
Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy luggage (often up to 70 pounds) and work in high-noise, outdoor environments.
Skills: Excellent communication, customer service, and multitasking skills.
Requirements: Minimum age of 18, high school diploma, valid drivers license, and ability to pass criminal background checks (., TSA).
Schedule: Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
