job summary:
a gp rating is a multi-skilled crew member trained to work in both the deck and engine departments of a ship. gp ratings perform a variety of duties, including ship maintenance, cargo handling, watchkeeping, and assisting with engine room operations.
key responsibilities:
deck duties:
assist in mooring and unmooring operations at port.
perform chipping, painting, greasing, and general cleaning of deck areas.
assist with cargo loading and unloading operations.
participate in lookout and helmsman duties during navigation.
support lifeboat, fire drill, and safety-related operations.
engine room duties:
assist engineers in daily maintenance and operations of engine machinery.
clean engine room and machinery spaces.
monitor and record parameters under the supervision of engineers.
carry tools and spares, and assist in bunkering operations.
qualifications and skills:
gp rating course from dg shipping-approved institute.
stcw basic safety training certificate (mandatory).
valid cdc (continuous discharge certificate).
indos number & medical fitness certificate.
physically fit for marine duties.
ability to work long hours in challenging marine conditions.
team player with good discipline and willingness to learn.
experience:
freshers accepted (with valid documents).
prior sailing experience as a trainee or os/wiper is an advantage.
working conditions:
rotational contracts (4 to 9 months onboard).
working in all weather conditions, indoors (engine room) and outdoors (deck).
shift duties and standby duties during port and sailing.
