job purpose:
the dg operator is responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of diesel generator (dg) sets to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the building and equipment.
the role includes routine inspection, fuel monitoring, load management, preventive maintenance, and coordination with electrical, hvac, plumbing, and fire teams to ensure smooth and safe facility operations.

3 – 8 years in dg operation, maintenance, and building technical services (preferably in commercial, residential, or industrial facilities).

🔹 key responsibilities:
1️⃣ dg operation & monitoring:
• operate and monitor dg sets during power failure or as per load requirement.
• check and maintain dg voltage, current, frequency, load, and oil pressure readings.
• maintain accurate log sheets for every dg run hour, fuel consumption, and performance.
• start/stop dg safely following standard operating procedures.
• coordinate with the electrical team for load transfer and synchronization (if applicable).
2️⃣ preventive & routine maintenance:
• carry out daily and periodic maintenance of dg as per oem guidelines.
• check engine oil level, coolant, fuel level, battery condition, air filter, belts, radiator, and exhaust system.
• identify and rectify minor issues like leakage, loose connections, and low oil pressure.
• ensure amc vendor or service technician coordination for periodic servicing, overhauling, and testing.
• keep all dg-related panels, control rooms, and areas clean and organized.
3️⃣ fuel & resource management:
• monitor diesel stock level, maintain fuel register, and ensure timely refilling.
• record diesel issue & consumption accurately with hour meter readings.
• ensure no pilferage, wastage, or spillage of diesel.
• check fuel transfer pumps, filters, and fuel lines for leakage or blockage.
4️⃣ electrical & system coordination:
• coordinate with electrical, hvac, fire, and facility teams during power changeovers.
• support in maintenance of lt panels, amf panels, acbs, mccbs, and connected equipment.
• report abnormalities like voltage fluctuations, tripping, or alarm signals immediately to the supervisor.
5️⃣ documentation & reporting:
• maintain dg logbooks, preventive maintenance records, fuel registers, and service reports.
• record all breakdowns, repairs, and parts replaced with date & time.
• submit daily operation and maintenance reports to the facility engineer / supervisor.
6️⃣ safety & compliance:
• follow all electrical and fire safety procedures during operation and maintenance.
• use ppe (personal protective equipment) while handling dg, fuel, and electrical panels.
• maintain proper ventilation and fire extinguisher availability near dg area.
• report unsafe acts, fuel leaks, or potential hazards immediately.
7️⃣ team training & technical upgradation:
• participate in technical and safety training sessions organized by the company.
• stay updated on dg operating systems, control panels, and safety devices.
• maintain professional behavior, grooming, and discipline as per company policy.

required skills & qualifications:
educational qualification:
• iti / diploma in electrical / mechanical trade.
• additional certification in dg operation, electrical maintenance, or safety preferred.
technical skills:
• strong knowledge of dg engine, alternator, and control systems.
• understanding of amf panels, acb, mccb, and electrical distribution.
• ability to detect and troubleshoot dg performance issues.
• familiar with diesel handling, fuel pump operation, and service intervals.
• knowledge of earthing, load balancing, and synchronization (if applicable).
