job summary
the assistant manager – purchase will be responsible for managing the procurement of raw materials, components, consumables, and capital goods. the role requires effective vendor management, cost control, negotiation, and coordination with internal departments to ensure timely and cost-effective purchasing aligned with production needs.

key responsibilities
• procurement operations:
o handle day-to-day purchasing activities for raw materials, mechanical components, tools, and other indirect materials.
o ensure timely procurement as per production schedules and project timelines.
• vendor management:
o identify, evaluate, and develop suppliers for quality, cost-efficiency, and timely delivery.
o negotiate terms and prices with vendors and ensure contractual compliance.
o maintain vendor relationships and resolve any supplier-related issues promptly.
• inventory & cost control:
o coordinate with store and production teams to monitor inventory levels.
o implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising on quality and timelines.
o ensure accurate and timely data entry in erp systems for purchase orders, grns, and invoices.
• coordination & documentation:
o collaborate with internal departments (production, quality, stores, accounts) for smooth procurement processes.
o ensure documentation and compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.
• market research & development:
o stay updated on market trends, new vendors, and alternative materials or suppliers.
o evaluate and onboard new vendors in coordination with the quality and audit teams.

qualifications & skills
• education:
o graduate in any discipline (preferably /diploma in mechanical or related field).
o mba/pg diploma in supply chain management or materials management is an added advantage.
• experience:
o 5–8 years of relevant experience in purchasing/procurement, preferably in engineering or manufacturing industries.
• skills required:
o strong negotiation and communication skills.
o proficiency in erp systems (sap / tally / customized erps).
o good analytical and problem-solving ability.
o understanding of mechanical components and technical specifications is a plus.
o proficient in ms office (excel, word, outlook).
