Structural steel detailing job description The primary responsibility of a structural steel detailer is to translate architectural and engineering designs into accurate and precise drawings that can be used by steel fabricators and construction teams.Here is a breakdown of the typical job description for a structural steel detailer:Interpretation of Design Documents: Review architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other relevant documents to understand the design requirements and project specifications.Detailed Drawings: Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings using computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD or Tekla Structures. These drawings include plans, elevations, sections, and connection details, showing the dimensions, materials, and specifications for each steel component.Material Takeoffs: Prepare accurate material quantity takeoffs based on the drawings to determine the required amount of steel, bolts, welds, and other materials.Connection Design: Determine the appropriate connection types and design connections between steel members, considering factors such as load-bearing capacity, structural stability, and industry standards.Coordination with Other Disciplines: Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure the steel detailing aligns with the overall design intent and meets structural requirements.Code Compliance: Ensure that all steel detailing work complies with relevant building codes, standards, and regulations.Communication: Communicate and coordinate with fabricators, construction teams, and other professionals to address any design issues, clarify specifications, and provide support during the fabrication and installation processes.Quality Control: Perform quality checks on drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project requirements.Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all drawings, revisions, and communication related to the steel detailing work

Should prepare the 3D model in Tekla as per IFC drawings And Client requirements7. Before starting the model, should check the Input drawings with latest revision.8. Should prepare the RFI's and update in the model as per RFIs reply by client.9. Should do the Preliminary model check and Clash check.10. After complete the model, should able to find out the Transportation and Erection issues.11. Knowledge of Standard connections, Macro's and User defines connections as per client requirements.12. Able to identify the similar connection in model13. And assign the same assembly and park for identical properties to minimize the no of quantity of Shop drawings.14. Capable of raising and preparation of RFI15. Good knowledge in Template and reports preparation with respect to client requirement16. Should Generate the GA drawings, Shop drawings, Erection drawings with related reports and NC files17. Good knowledge in preparing Bill of Material, Title block as per client requirement18.
