Main Responsibilities of a Sub EditorEdit copy, written by reporters or features writers, to remove spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.Proofread complete pages produced by other sub-editors typically using the main basic proofing symbols.Rewrite material so that it flows or reads better and adheres to the house style of a particular publicationEnsure that a story fits a particular word count by cutting or expanding material as necessary.Liaise with writers and editors.Check facts and stories to ensure they're accurate, adhere to copyright laws, or go against the publication's policy.Work to a page plan to ensure that the right stories appear in the correct place on each page.Lay out pages and, depending on the nature of the role, play a part in page design.Adapt all these skills for a publication's website.If required; should be able to coordinate to hire new recruitsKey RequirementsExcellent written skills and high levels of proofreading and editingAccurate spelling, grammar and punctuationStrong attention to detailGood organizational and communication skillsThe ability to work under pressure to tight deadlinesPrior experience as a sub editor or journalistQualifications:Degree in journalism, communications or related field with 3-7 years of experience in content development & management.
