Job Purpose
To install, test, commission, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair solar photovoltaic (PV) systems safely and efficiently, ensuring quality workmanship, compliance with electrical standards, and customer satisfaction.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Solar Installation
Install solar PV modules, mounting structures, inverters, junction boxes, and balance of system (BOS) components.
Assemble and install module mounting structures as per approved drawings.
Install DC and AC cabling according to electrical standards.
Perform cable dressing, labeling, and termination.
2. Electrical Work
Install ACDB, DCDB, LT panels, isolators, and protection devices.
Perform earthing and lightning arrestor installation.
Connect solar systems to electrical panels and grid connections.
Ensure correct polarity and electrical safety during installation.
3. Testing & Commissioning
Assist in system testing and commissioning.
Check insulation resistance, continuity, polarity, and earth resistance.
Verify inverter operation and system performance.
Report defects before project handover.
4. Operation & Maintenance (O&M)
Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance of solar plants.
Clean solar panels as per maintenance schedule.
Inspect modules, inverters, cables, and electrical connections.
Replace damaged components when required.
5. Troubleshooting
Identify faults in PV modules, inverters, wiring, and electrical equipment.
Diagnose system performance issues.
Rectify faults promptly to minimize downtime.
Report major technical issues to the Site Engineer.
6. Safety Compliance
Follow electrical safety procedures and work-at-height guidelines.
Wear PPE (Helmet, Safety Shoes, Gloves, Safety Belt, etc.).
Maintain safe work practices at project sites.
Report unsafe conditions and incidents immediately.
7. Documentation
Maintain daily work reports.
Record testing and maintenance activities.
Update installation checklists.
Report material usage and shortages.
Submit service reports after site visits.
8. Material Handling
Handle solar modules and equipment carefully.
Ensure proper storage of materials at site.
Report damaged or missing materials.
Minimize material wastage.
9. Customer Support
Explain basic system operation to customers.
Assist during project handover.
Respond to customer queries during installation and maintenance.
10. Team Coordination
Work closely with Site Engineers, Supervisors, and Project Managers.
Coordinate with Stores for material requirements.
Support quality inspections and project audits.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Installation completed within schedule.
First-time installation quality.
Zero safety violations.
Low material wastage.
Preventive maintenance completed on time.
System uptime and performance.
Customer satisfaction.
Timely submission of reports.
Required Qualification
ITI (Electrician/Wireman) or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
Solar PV certification (preferred).
Experience
Freshers to 3 years of experience in solar installation, electrical work, or maintenance
Technical Skills
Solar PV installation.
Electrical wiring and cable termination.
Earthing and lightning protection.
Inverter installation and commissioning.
Reading electrical drawings and SLD.
Use of multimeter, clamp meter, insulation tester, and other electrical tools.
Basic troubleshooting of solar systems.
