Collect representative samples of molten metal, billets, logs, and extruded profiles as per the defined sampling plan and frequency.
Prepare samples for testing - cutting, machining, grinding, polishing, and surface preparation of spectrometer discs, tensile specimens, and conductivity samples.
Ensure samples are correctly identified, labelled, and traceable to the heat / batch / lot number.
Maintain sample retention as per the retention policy for traceability and customer requirements.
Chemical Composition Testing - Spectrometer
Operate the optical emission spectrometer (OES) to determine the chemical composition of aluminium alloys.
Perform daily standardisation / re-calibration using certified reference standards before testing.
Verify composition against the required alloy specification (., 6063, 6061, 6005) and report deviations immediately to the Quality Engineer and Foundry.
Maintain spectrometer log, argon gas levels, electrode condition, and routine cleaning.
Mechanical Testing - UTS / Universal Testing Machine
Conduct tensile testing on prepared specimens to determine ultimate tensile strength (UTS), yield strength, and percentage elongation.
Perform hardness testing (Webster / Vickers / Rockwell as applicable) on profiles and samples.
Ensure test parameters, grips, and load cells are correctly set; record results accurately against specification limits.
Identify and report any sample that fails mechanical property requirements.
Conductivity & Temper Verification
Use the conductivity meter (eddy current) to measure electrical conductivity (% IACS) and verify the temper / heat-treatment condition of profiles.
Correlate conductivity readings with required temper (T5, T6, etc.) and report non-conformities.
Calibrate the conductivity meter using standard blocks before use.
Dimensional Inspection
Operate the Keyence profile projector to inspect cross-sectional dimensions, profiles, angles, and tolerances of extruded sections against approved drawings.
Use hand instruments - vernier caliper, micrometer, height gauge, bore gauge, fillet / radius gauges, and feeler gauges - for dimensional measurement.
Measure wall thickness, gap, flatness, straightness, twist, and bow of profiles as per drawing and standard tolerances (., IS / EN / customer-specific).
Inspect die trial samples (first-piece inspection) and report dimensional conformity to the Tool Room and Quality Engineer.
Visual & Surface Inspection
Carry out visual inspection of profiles for surface defects - die lines, pickup, scratches, dents, blisters, discoloration, and handling damage.
Inspect anodised / powder-coated profiles for coating thickness, gloss, adhesion, and surface finish (using coating thickness gauge where applicable).
Verify length, packing, and labelling at the packing & dispatch stage as per customer requirement.
Test Certificates & Documentation
Prepare and issue Test Certificates / Mill Test Certificates (MTC / TC) for all customer dispatches, capturing chemical composition, mechanical properties, conductivity, dimensions, and temper.
Ensure test certificates are accurate, complete, traceable to heat / batch numbers, and aligned with the relevant standard and customer specification.
Maintain inspection reports, in-process check sheets, calibration records, and rejection records in an organised and retrievable manner.
Enter quality data, test results, and certificate details into the ERP system and link them to dispatch documents.
Calibration & Instrument Upkeep
Maintain calibration status and schedules for all measuring and testing instruments; ensure no expired-calibration instrument is used.
Coordinate internal and external (NABL) calibration of instruments and maintain calibration certificates.
Perform daily verification / standardisation of instruments before starting tests.
Keep the lab, instruments, and standards clean, organised, and in good working condition; report breakdowns promptly.
Quality System Support
Support implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System (ISO 9001 / IATF / customer-specific requirements).
Assist in handling non-conforming material - identification, tagging, segregation, and recording.
Assist the Quality Engineer in root cause analysis, customer complaint investigation, and corrective / preventive action (CAPA).
Participate in internal audits, customer audits, and certification audits by providing lab records and data.
Follow 5S, safety, and good laboratory practices within the quality lab.
Reporting
Report all out-of-specification results immediately to the Quality Engineer / Quality Head.
Prepare daily / shift quality reports covering tests performed, pass / fail data, and pending items.
Maintain rejection and rework data and support trend / Pareto analysis.

4. Qualifications & Experience
Educational Qualification
Diploma in Metallurgy / Mechanical Engineering OR . (Physics / Chemistry / Industrial) OR ITI with relevant quality lab experience.
Knowledge of metallurgy / material testing will be an added advantage.
Experience
1-4 years of experience in a quality / testing lab, preferably in an aluminium extrusion, casting, or metals manufacturing environment.
Freshers with a relevant diploma and good aptitude may be considered for a trainee grade.
Technical Skills
Ability to operate spectrometer, UTS / tensile testing machine, conductivity meter, and Keyence profile projector.
Proficiency in using vernier caliper, micrometer, height gauge, bore gauge, and other precision measuring instruments.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and dimensional tolerances.
Understanding of aluminium alloys, tempers, heat treatment, and common extrusion defects.
Sample preparation skills - cutting, grinding, polishing for testing.
Computer literacy - MS Office (Excel, Word) and ability to work on ERP systems for data entry and certificate generation.

5. Working Conditions
On-site role in the quality lab and shop floor; rotational / shift-based working as per production requirement.

6. Authority
Authorised to hold / tag non-conforming material pending decision by the Quality Engineer.
Authorised to stop dispatch of any material lacking valid test results, in coordination with the Quality Head.
Authorised to record and certify test results within defined responsibility, subject to review as per the quality plan.
