Job Description for Pipefitter (Shipbuilding)

1. Position

•

Job title: Pipefitter (Shipbuilding)

Department: Production Department

Reports to: Production Foreman / Supervisor

2. Purpose

•

The pipefitter is responsible for the installation, assembly, and maintenance of piping systems on ships, according to technical drawings and safety standards, ensuring operational quality and compliance with shipbuilding regulations.

3. Functions and Responsibilities

•

Read and interpret technical drawings and isometric diagrams;

•

Install, assemble, and secure pipes, fittings, and supports for ship systems (., fuel, cooling, water, air);

•

Cut, thread, bend, and weld pipes using appropriate tools and techniques;

•

Conduct pressure tests and inspections to check for leaks or flaws;

•

Ensure precise alignment and correct fit-up of pipe segments;

•

Work in coordination with other shipbuilding specialists such as welders, hull assemblers, and electricians;

•

Use and maintain pipefitting tools and equipment in good condition;

•

Follow all safety and environmental procedures on the worksite.

4. Qualification Requirements

•

Vocational or technical education in pipefitting or related field;

•

Ability to read piping schematics and technical documentation;

•

Experience with different pipefitting methods and materials carbon steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, etc.

•

Minimum 5 years of experience in shipbuilding pipefitting;

Responsibility, precision, teamwork, and physical endurance.
