key responsibilities:
1. assign appropriate medical codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services for accurate billing and reimbursement: as a medical coder, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing medical records to assign the correct codes according to coding guidelines.
2. ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulations: you will need to stay updated on the latest coding regulations and ensure that all codes assigned are accurate and in compliance with industry standards.
3. communicate with healthcare providers to clarify information and resolve discrepancies: you will work closely with healthcare providers to clarify any unclear documentation and ensure accurate code assignment.
4. review denial claims and appeal if necessary: as a medical coder, you will be responsible for reviewing denial claims, identifying coding issues, and preparing appeals to maximize reimbursement.
5. maintain confidentiality of patient information: it is crucial for medical coders to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and protect the privacy of patient information at all times.
required skills and expectations:
- strong knowledge of medical terminology and coding guidelines.
- proficiency in assigning accurate icd-10, cpt, and hcpcs codes.
- excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- certification in medical coding (., cpc, ccs) is preferred but not required.
