Key Responsibilities and Duties
1. Design and Development
Conceptualization and Design: Research, design, and develop new mechanical components, machines, and systems (., engines, turbines, HVAC systems, industrial machinery, robotic devices).
Computer-Aided Design (CAD): Create and analyze detailed 2D and 3D models and technical drawings using CAD software (., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
Analysis and Simulation: Use engineering analysis tools, such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to simulate and predict system behavior under various conditions (stress, strain, temperature, fluid flow).
Specification: Produce detailed specifications for materials, components, and required manufacturing processes.
2. Testing and Analysis
Prototyping: Develop, build, and test prototypes of devices and systems.
Data Interpretation: Analyze and interpret test data and results to evaluate product performance, reliability, and safety.
Modification: Recommend and implement design modifications to improve product performance, eliminate malfunctions, and reduce costs.
Failure Investigation: Investigate equipment failures, diagnose faulty operations, and recommend effective remedial actions.
3. Project Management and Collaboration
Project Planning: Assess project requirements, estimate budgets, set timelines, and develop project plans.
Cross-Functional Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with engineers from other disciplines (., electrical, manufacturing), designers, contractors, and suppliers.
Technical Documentation: Prepare and present technical reports, documentation, blueprints, and operational manuals.
Compliance: Ensure designs and final products comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and quality controls.
4. Manufacturing and Production
Process Oversight: Oversee the selection of manufacturing methods and monitor all aspects of the production process.
Continuous Improvement: Design and implement cost-effective equipment modifications to improve production efficiency, safety, and reliability.
Maintenance: Oversee the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of machinery and equipment.
