Being familiar with the crane's load chart.

Inspecting and maintaining the crane regularly.

Be particularly cautious around power lines.

Maintaining communication with signalpersons.

Supervising and training the apprentice if one is present.

Checking that the site is adequately prepared for the crane.

Assembling, setting up and rigging the crane properly.

The operator must understand its functions and limitations.

Shutting down and securing the machine properly when it is unattended.

Recording in the log or report the details of all inspections, maintenance.

The operator must understand the correct meaning of all notes and warnings.

Informing the owner of any problems, needed maintenance, or necessary repairs.
