Overview :Cath lab technician, or cardiac catheterization technologist, prepares patients for cardiac catheterization, sets up and operates specialized equipment, and assists the cardiologist during invasive diagnostic and interventional procedures like angioplasty. They monitor the patient's vital signs, handle instruments and medications, and ensure patient safety throughout the procedure. Other duties include patient care and education, equipment maintenance, and adherence to safety protocols.
Key responsibilities
Patient preparation: Obtain informed consent, explain the procedure, and ensure the patient is ready and comfortable.
Equipment management: Set up, operate, and maintain cath lab equipment, including monitors, imaging machines, and catheters, and ensure sterile supplies are ready.
Procedural assistance: Work directly with the cardiologist, passing instruments, providing medications, and monitoring the patient's vital signs and status.
