Role Overview:
As a Business Analyst at Empowered Margins (re), you will play a critical role in
supporting our innovative underwriting automation solutions tailored specifically for self-insured
and level-funded insurance markets. You will bridge business objectives with technological
capabilities, closely collaborating with stakeholders to analyze and refine requirements,
enhance processes, and deliver solutions that significantly improve underwriting efficiency and
accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with stakeholders, including underwriters, actuaries, and product managers,
to gather, analyze, and clearly document business requirements, ensuring alignment
with underwriting automation and risk assessment objectives.
Conduct detailed stakeholder interviews and workshops to deeply understand business
processes, challenges, and opportunities within self-insured and group health insurance
underwriting.
Analyze underwriting data sets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for automation,
improved risk management, and operational efficiency.
Develop precise business process flows, use cases, and detailed user stories
specifically designed to support automation of underwriting tasks, proposal generation,
and quoting workflows.
Work closely with technical teams, including developers, designers, and QA
professionals, ensuring accurate and efficient translation of business needs into
technological solutions.
Act as a key liaison between business stakeholders and the technical teams, facilitating
seamless communication and timely feedback throughout all project phases.
Conduct comprehensive impact assessments and risk analyses for proposed
underwriting automation solutions, ensuring business readiness and informed
decision-making.
Monitor and report on project progress and key underwriting efficiency metrics,
identifying potential risks and proactively proposing actionable solutions.
Stay abreast of insurance industry trends, emerging underwriting technologies, and
regulatory requirements to continuously drive innovation and compliance within
re products.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Insurance, or
related fields.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Business Analyst, specifically within InsureTech,
underwriting automation, or insurance software domains.
Deep knowledge of insurance underwriting processes, particularly in self-insured,
stop-loss, and level-funded insurance environments.
Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to analyze complex insurance data
and workflows to inform strategic decisions.
Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, adept at effectively
engaging with underwriting stakeholders and technical teams.
Proven experience utilizing business analysis tools and methodologies, including
process modeling, data analysis, and requirements elicitation.
Experience working within Agile methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, with
familiarity in project management tools (Jira, Trello, etc.).
Certifications such as CBAP, CCBA, or domain-specific underwriting credentials are
highly desirable.
Proficiency in tools including Microsoft Visio, Lucid Charts, Wireframing Tools, Visual
Tools, and AI-driven analytics.
