Job Description and Core ResponsibilitiesThe primary duty of a crane operator is safety and precision in handling heavy loads. Key responsibilities include:Safe Operation: Operating the crane controls (levers, pedals, buttons) to regulate the speed and direction of the crane and hoist movement according to signals (hand, radio, or verbal) from a banksman or rigger.Equipment Inspection & Maintenance: Conducting daily pre-operational checks and safety inspections on the crane to identify and report any mechanical issues, defects, or malfunctions. Performing routine, minor maintenance and lubrication.Load Management: Calculating crane capacities and load weights, planning lifts, and determining load requirements to ensure balance and prevent overloading or capsizing.Setup: Driving mobile cranes to the worksite, assembling or setting up crane towers, and positioning blocks and outriggers to ensure stability.Coordination and Communication: Maintaining clear visual and radio contact with ground personnel (riggers and signalpersons) to coordinate lifting operations and ensure site safety.Documentation: Completing job tickets, service quality summaries, daily logs, and maintenance records.Safety Compliance: Adhering to stringent safety protocols, regulations (like OSHA), and industry standards at all times.
