Overview : A blood bank technician is a healthcare professional responsible for performing technical tasks related to blood collection, processing, and testing to ensure the safety and quality of blood supplies for transfusions and medical procedures. They screen donors, draw blood, perform complex tests to determine blood type and screen for diseases, and meticulously label and store blood products. Key responsibilitiesDonor screening and blood collection:Interviewing potential donors and using sterile techniques to draw blood from donors and patients. Blood testing:Performing complex tests to determine blood type and screen for infectious diseases to ensure the blood is safe for transfusion. Processing and storage:Separating donated blood into components like plasma and platelets, and storing blood products according to established protocols. Quality control:Ensuring the quality and integrity of blood products by performing quality control checks and maintaining lab equipment. Record keeping:Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all blood bank activities, including donations, test results, and distribution. Compatibility testing:Checking the compatibility of donor blood with recipient blood before it is issued for transfusion. Collaboration:Working closely with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate blood transfusions and patient care. Compliance:Adhering to strict protocols and regulatory standards to guarantee the safety and accuracy of their work.
